TACO's June Roundup

The Gender Rebel's Guide to Oklahoma

Early June Roundup

After a grueling legislative session where we managed to avoid almost all of the worst bills from becoming law, Trans Advocacy Coalition of Oklahoma (T.A.C.O.) is spending the summer focussed on rest and rejuvenation. This may be the last e-zine for a little while, so make sure you are following us on social media or in our discord server to ensure you see our summer updates!

Announcements

We are thrilled to announce that we were recently awarded our first ever grant, of over six thousand dollars, by the Trans Justice Funding Project! Best of all, this money was awarded to us unconditionally so we are able to spend it however we choose! Some suggestions so far have been:

  • Adding funds to our Assistance Collective so we can offer more financial assistance to those in need

  • Upgrading our broadcast capabilities by buying a camera and mic

  • Ordering new merch including shirts, stickers, buttons, etc

  • Renting a physical space to store our inventory

  • Hosting more events, such as a gender-inclusive pool party

  • Sending delegates to upcoming 2SLGBTQ+ events and conventions

Community Needs

“But remember that as you celebrate this whole month, of how you are liberated.” - Sylvia Rivera, “Bitch on Wheels” Speech

Our community has always depended on us actively participating in Mutual Aid: donating, fundraising, engaging and reposting to social media, etc. In the past few weeks, several community members have reached out, many with urgent needs. Please do whatever you can to help them reach their goals:

  • On May 15 we learned of a local neuroqueer in NE OK with many unmet needs including food, moving expenses, and medical necessities. Visit their Amazon wishlist to provide direct assistance, or their website to send funds.

  • On May 20 we learned of a local trans man who was assaulted and totaled his truck and needs funds for a rental and getting new transportation. Visit his gofundme to support his efforts.

  • On May 25 we learned of a local trans woman needing $165 to get back to a trans safe rehab. Visit her venmo to support her efforts.

  • On May 28 we learned of a local trans woman in NW OK who needs to raise funds for a deposit in order to get a new apartment, as well as to raise money towards electrolysis and surgery costs. Visit her gofundme to support her efforts.

  • On May 31 we learned of a local trans man in Central OK who has broken their leg and urgently needs $350 to get a greyhound ticket to North Carolina. where he can get family support while recovering from leg surgery. Visit his gofundme to support his efforts.

  • On June 2 we learned of a local non-binary person from NE OK who urgently needs $100 to get food and their phone service restored after escaping from an abusive situation. Visit their venmo to support their efforts.

Follow Oklahoma Trans Crowd Funding on instagram for more needs as we become aware of them, and know that you can always reach out to us, or to the instagram page if you or someone you know needs financial support.

Community Connections

Usually, this is where we list all the events happening in OKC, Tulsa, and smaller communities across Oklahoma. However, with so much going on for Pride it would’ve taken forever to write (and read!) so we've decided instead to share a list of organizations/venues who are hosting events this summer. Click any/all that interest you to see what they're doing!

anger is a gift
it helps drive you to action
do not smoulder: BURN.

It will be alright,
I was forged in hotter flames
than those burning now

when fury burns hotter
than all fires on this planet
direct it outwards

A Zine (pronounced “zeen”, short for magazine) is a short, simple DIY booklet. Anybody can make one and there are no rules for what it looks like! Anything you want to write, draw, or create - if you can print it, you can make it into a zine! Zines are independently published and distributed - all you need is to get access to a printer or photocopy machine (and we can help!)
